TRAVEL INSURANCE INFORMATION

There are many different types of travel insurance out there. Keep in mind; you may want to get coverage for any pre-trip incidents such as spraining an ankle, unexpected death in the family, or any other event that may prevent you from participating on the trip you have had planned. There is also trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance.

For medical issues and lost or stolen personal items once you have arrived to your destination country, make sure you check with you current health insurance and homeowners insurance to ensure that you are not duplicating coverage and paying for something you don't need.

As you will find in researching your travel insurance needs, you will find that most companies do not cover injuries incurred while mountaineering. I believe the definition of "mountaineering" is different for each company, make sure you ask what definition they use for "mountaineering". Often you will be
covered until you put your crampons and harness on. Trekking is generally not considered mountaineering, so if you are traveling to Kilimanjaro you should be covered for the entire trip. But you should definitely ask the insurance provider.
