Dhaulagiri "White Mountain": 26,788 feet (8201m)
This mountain is one of the true jewels of the Himalayas. Dhaulagiri, referred to by locals as "White Mountain", from the Sanskrit word dhavala giri, has a reputation of being one of the more technically challenging 8000-meter peaks of the Himalayas. One of the more alluring qualities of Dhaulagiri is the lack of big commercial expeditions. Located in the Annapurna region, Dhaulagiri and its neighboring peaks tend to get smaller crowds providing a true expeditionary atmosphere.
Solid technical skills required
The world's 7th highst mountain, Dhaulagiri is very
demanding. You must have solid cramponing skills and be able to
rappel with a pack on. There are short, steep sections on
nearly vertical ice that requires front-pointing skills. You
need to know how to jumar on fixed ropes. If you have questions
about your ability level for this climb - please call our
office at 800.408.8949. We are happy to discuss your climbing
skills and any training options.

Staff
Our guides are world-class
climbers. They have been on many expeditions and are among the
best in the world. Safety is their first concern - as is your
successful expedition. Our lead guide, Robert Link, has years
of high altitude experience with summits on Cho Oyu, Everest,
Denali and Kanchenjunga.
Mountain Link is honored to work with the best Sherpas in the world. As our Sirdar, Lhawang Dhondup has climbed with and supported our himalayan expeditions for many years. He is arguably one of the best climbers in the region.
Modern equipment aids in success
We believe in giving our clients the best possible shot at the
summit - while remaining safe. We utilize satellite phones and
each team member is provided with a personal radio for the
climb.
We provide oxygen at higher camps for sleeping (above 24,500 feet) and for the final summit day. We believe supplemental oxygen is not only more comfortable, but a safety concern for all team members. We also bring a Gamow Bag in the event of altitude sickness.
